English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)
The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a group of parents/guardians of English Learners, along with school staff, that works with the principal to support programs and services for students learning English. The majority of ELAC members are parents or guardians of English Learners, and members are typically elected by their peers.
Over the course of the year, ELAC reviews and provides input on topics such as the school’s English Learner program, student progress toward English proficiency, reclassification criteria, and ways to promote regular school attendance. The committee also helps advise on the development of the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) as it relates to English Learners.
Through collaboration and feedback, ELAC plays an important role in ensuring that English Learners have access to the support and opportunities they need to succeed academically and become college and career ready.
